1. A must-have breast pump in the maternity bag
Many mothers prepare a breast pump early in pregnancy. In fact, a breast pump is not a must-have item in the delivery bag.
Generally, the breast pump is used in the following situations: separation of mother and baby after delivery
If the mother wants to return to the workplace after giving birth, she can use it sooner or later anyway, so you can prepare one in advance.
If the mother is already at home full-time, it is not necessary to prepare a breast pump during pregnancy, because if the breastfeeding is successfully started, the breast pump can be omitted.
The most important thing during pregnancy is to learn more and master the correct knowledge and skills of breastfeeding.
2. The bigger the suction, the better
Many people think that the principle of breast pumping is to suck out the milk with negative pressure, just like adults drink water through a straw. If you think this way, you are wrong.
The breast pump is actually a way of simulating breastfeeding, which stimulates the areola to produce milk arrays and then removes a large amount of milk.
Therefore, the negative pressure suction of the breast pump is not as large as possible. Too much negative pressure will cause the mother to feel uncomfortable, but will affect the production of milk arrays. Just find the maximum comfortable negative pressure when pumping.
How to find the maximum comfortable negative pressure?
When the mother is breastfeeding, the pressure is adjusted upward from the lowest pressure level. When the mother feels uncomfortable, it is adjusted down to the maximum comfortable negative pressure.
Generally, the maximum comfortable negative pressure on one side of the breast is almost the same most of the time, so if you adjust it once, the mother can directly feel it at this pressure position next time, and make minor adjustments if it feels uncomfortable.
3. The longer the pumping time, the better
Many mothers pump milk for an hour at a time in pursuit of more milk, making their areola edema and exhausted.
It is not easy to use a breast pump for a long time. After pumping for too long, it is not easy to stimulate the milk formation, and it is easy to cause breast damage.
In most cases, one breast should not be pumped for more than 15-20 minutes, and bilateral pumping should be no more than 15-20 minutes.
If you have not pumped a drop of milk after pumping for a few minutes, you can stop pumping at this time, stimulate the milk array with massage, hand expressing, etc., and then pump again.
